Abstract
The application of synchronous excitation spectrofluorimetry to forensic drug analysis is described. The synchronous excitation fluorimetric method as previously reported was applied since it eliminates interference from the Rayleigh and Raman scattering of light. The excitation and analysing wavelengths were scanned simultaneously with a 'constant step' being maintained between these 2 wavelengths. Samples for toxicological analysis containing amphetamine, morphine, quinine or LSD were examined by this method. This procedure enabled morphine to be detected in the presence of quinine as long as the morphine/quinine ratio was >A 10, a problem which could not be resolved by spectra obtained by-the classical analytical method. LSD-quinine mixtures could not be resolved since the maxima were too close together to allow separation, but as long as the ratio of concentration was >' 0.1, the presence of quinine did not interfere with determination of LSD. The fluorimetric procedure could also be used for quantitative purposes. The use of different kinds of fluorometers for spectral recording is discussed,
